One great step in good health is being educated on signs that our body is in danger. While none of us are Doctors there a few things that can alert us to danger and should get immediate attention from a health care professional. The following pains should not be ignored and may indicate cancer or serious health problems.
- Pelvic Pain-Because the pelvic region contains some reproductive and urinary tract organs, it may be hard to identify the pain as any thing other than normal menstrual pain. But those with ovarian cancer will experience pain in the abdominal or in the lower back, changes in urinary bowl patterns, bladder pressure bloating and fullness or weight loss.
- Chest Pain-Because two lungs sit on either side of the heart, when something is wrong with them the whole body feels the effects. Tumors in the lungs make breathing painful, difficult and causes wheezing. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both women and men, and although smoking is a big contributor to that risk, lung cancer also occurs in those who have never smoked (mostly women). Signs of lung cancer include chronic coughing, shortness of breath, pain in the chest, coughing up blood, wheezing, and weight loss.
- Abdominal Pain-although abdominal pain can indicated a list of illnesses, one of the most serious is colon cancer. Tumors invade the colon wall and grow and expand, that causes a block off or the thoroughfare that carries solid waste away. Signs of colon cancer include changes in bowels. abdominal pain, bloating, cramping, blood in stool, rectal bleeding, and weight loss.
- Bone Pain-Bone is made up of a dense mineralized tissue and softer hollow called bone marrow. Cancer can arise in bone and travel from another location in the body. When cancer invades the dense matrix that makes up hard bone, it weakens the structure and makes them more prone to breaks and fractures. Myeloma affects blood plasma cells, it causes small holes in the bone that can weaken and fracture easily. Signs of Myeloma include chronic bone pain, unexplained fractures, frequent infections, anemia, and fatigue.
- Head Pain-First off every headache, and even chronic headaches are usually not brain tumors. But there are some types to look out for. Signs of brain cancer include early morning headaches, or ones that wake you out of sleep, vomiting, nausea, changes in sensation, speed or balance, and vision.
If you experience any of the above pains you should consult with a health care professional immediately. But please note there are also some cancers that have no warning signs or pain what so ever, so it is best in the name of preventative health to get scheduled screenings and physicals.
