Organic Coffee

As you probably know here at IFGT we are trying to live a more organic lifestyle, so that has lead us on a quest for everything organic, including coffee. Today we wondered what makes coffee organic and what are the major benefits.

Organic coffee comes from farms that meet strict standards set up and enforced by the U.S. Dept of Agriculture. Organic coffee is free of chemical contaminants, the farms that it comes from only use organic farming techniques. Its required for the certification process that the farm use only organic farming techniques for three years before the farm can be certified as a organic farm. The growing of the coffee does NOT include any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.

Health benefits including not exposing your body to pesticide, hormones and chemicals that can cause cancer, reproduction problems, damage to the nervous system, and disruption to hormone and immune-system function.

Not only is organic coffee beneficial to our bodies but it is also beneficial to our environment. Organic coffee growth does not cause deforestation like it does with conventional coffee. Most organic coffee farmers grow in the shade of the rain forest.
