As you know we are always looking for healthy alternatives for everyday things we need and want to use, eat and drink. So the thing is that conventional mouthwash is pretty on safe. In fact it can and usually contains ingredients such as benzoic acid, poloxamer 407, sodium benzoate, caramel, sorbitol solution, flavoring, and sodium saccharin.
No wonder they have warnings not to shallow this stuff, but the fact is that it shouldnt even touch your lips, because many of these ingredients are linked to cancer!!
Dentist recommend that if you brush regularly, clean your tongue, and floss, then mouthwash isn't necessary. But in case you still want it to freshen your breath, One Green Planet, has a great natural reciep, that you can make with ingredients already in your house. They recommend making it one serving at a time, to ensure freshness!
- 1 tablespoon organic coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon organic peppermint oil
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
In a small cup, mix these ingredients together. Then, pour into your mouth and swish for at least one minute – up to 10 minutes if you can stand it! From the coconut oil, you’ll get the benefit of oil pulling – a detoxifying practice that literally pulls toxins from your saliva.
